Common Sense - If it's so common why do so few of our elected officials have it? We are tired of nothing getting done because one extreme or the other doesn't want to give an inch. We are demanding that our elected officials across the country start working together to pass legislation in the areas we do agree on. Debate the remaining areas with a passion, but we want some Common Sense to prevail.
Common Sense Says - It's the 'Economy Stupid'. Remember that one from Bill Clinton's run for President. It's not healthcare, it's not cap and trade, it's not Guantanamo Bay Cuba.
Common Sense Says - that President Obama promised to reform healthcare by the end of his first term Our healthcare system was developed over a period of at least fifty (50) years. Why must it be reformed in less than three months?
Common Sense Says - that President Obama was elected to restore our economy. Why is he sidetracked on healthcare and global warming? Fix our economy then we can debate the need for healthcare reform and climate change legislation.
Common Sense Says - that healthcare is over 20% of our nation's economy. Anything that big should take at least six months of debate and compromise to fix. Why must it be done in 2 weeks?
Common Sense Says - that the Stimulus Bill was supposed to rebuild all of America not just the counties that voted for the President. There should be oversight to ensure that the money authorized in the Stimulus Bill is not used as political payback......
Common Sense Says - that if you vote for somebody because of their party affiliation only, you will get what you deserve. Make candidates be specific about what they stand for. Conservative and Moderate Democrats have nothing in common with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. Why would they vote for them as Majority Leader and Speaker????
Common Sense Says - that you don't totally re-vamp the current healthcare system to accommodate 41 million people. Less than 13% of Americans don't have healthcare and many of them choose not to pay for it. Develop a program for those without and leave everybody else's healthcare alone. Common sense also says when has the government ever managed anything proficiently
Common Sense Says - that borrowing money to loan it to other countries and organizations is financial insanity. President Obama to loan IMF $100B. We can't help other countries and UN organizations until we have our own house in order.
Common Sense Says - Millionaire politicians will not solve poverty, health care or economic issues. We need more everyday citizens to step up.
Common Sense Says - We don't have the right or need to own assault weapons. We do have the right to protect ourselves after a background check has been completed.
Common Sense Says - If you are convicted for possession of rock cocaine you should receive the same sentence as somebody that is convicted for possession of an equivalent amount of powdered cocaine.
Common Sense Says - Prison is not always the right answer for somebody convicted for possession if it is a first offense. Our Prisons are overflowing. Get together and work out options.
Common Sense Says - Drilling for oil is not the only answer. It should be done in concert with nuclear, wind, solar and most assuredly conservation. But we must drill.
Common Sense Says - If we are worried about "Big Oil"companies destroying our environment, require them to put up a bond for any possible spills. When was the last spill?
Common Sense Says - If you put a larger tax on the oil companies, "Windfall Profits Tax", won't they just pass it on to us?
Common Sense Says - Incentive is one building block of Invention. Distributing a cash reward for any business or individual developing a better battery for our electric cars or a carburetor that gets much better gas mileage only makes sense.
Common Sense Says - If you have a public school not performing up to the standards that you want as a parent, you should be able to fire that school.
Common Sense Says - If you lost your ability to work with dignity because you were injured while serving your country, your country should help you to get back on your feet. Common Sense also Says that it isn't just the government's responsibility to help our men and women in the military. The American People and American Corporations should step up and be counted. I know "It wasn't my war". Well, it wasn't "their war" either.
Common Sense Says - If somebody is on Death Row without DNA evidence or a confession their sentences should be commuted to life "without the possibility of parole".
Common Sense Says - If a woman is raped or might die from medical complications, she and her family should make the decision about abortion. Common Sense also says abortion should not be used as birth control or as a lifestyle choice. Most Americans do not believe in Abortion on demand nor do they believe that a woman that is raped must be forced, by law, to carry full term.
Common Sense Says - Three Strikes and Your out Law was not intended to put somebody behind bars for stealing pizza or a hair brush. WE voted to keep very dangerous repeat offenders in prison not somebody caught shop lifting. Common Sense must prevail.
Common Sense Says - The response to Hurricane Katrina was a failure at all levels of government. Federal, State, County and City officials all blew it. If you couldn't evacuate everybody at least get the old and young out. Provide water by helicopter. It must never happen again.
Common Sense - We need more of it from our elected officials. Both sides of any argument mentioned refuse to allow even the areas in which we agree to be enacted into Common Sense Laws. They are all afraid of the "SLIPPERY SLOPE". We will all slide down the "Slippery Slope" into oblivion if we don't learn to at least compromise on some aspects of the above. We expect our officials to start working together on legislation that will incorporate a little Common Sense.
